Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify attributes of clinical nurses' critical reflection.
Methods: Focus group interviews were conducted from April 20th to July 30th, 2021. Ten participants of a critical reflection program who had experience of teaching new nurses with more than 5 years of clinical experience in a tertiary general hospital were enrolled in this study. Data were analyzed with the inductive content analysis method of Elo and Kyngas (2008).
Results: The following four themes were derived: “Identifying the contextual meaning of nursing situation”, “Applying what has been learned to practice by reconstructing experiences”, “Discovering the meaning of nursing while learning from experience”, and “Reinforcing of inner resources through an open exchange of ideas”. These results showed attributes of clinical nurses with good critical reflection.
Conclusion: A critical reflection program based on reflective experience is needed to continuously improve nursing competency of clinical nurses.
